Kannada Calendar 2027 August provides the complete monthly Panchanga information for devotees and families in Karnataka. This August calendar includes daily tithi, nakshatra, paksha, important Hindu festivals, vrats, Ekadashi, Purnima, Amavasya, Sankashti Chaturthi, Shravana Somavara and other observances.
For this page, Panchanga timings are presented for Bengaluru, Karnataka, India, in Indian Standard Time (IST). Sunrise, sunset, Rahu Kalam, Yamaganda, Gulika Kalam, moonrise and festival Muhurta can change according to location, so timings calculated for Bengaluru should not automatically be applied to Mysuru, Mangaluru, Hubballi, Belagavi or another city.
August 2027 begins in the closing days of Ashadha Amanta month and moves into Shravana (ಶ್ರಾವಣ) after the Amavasya on August 2. Shravana continues through the rest of August under the Kannada/Amanta reckoning, with important observances including Nagara Panchami, Shravana Putrada Ekadashi, Varalakshmi Vratham, Shravana Purnima/Raksha Bandhan, Krishna Janmashtami and Aja Ekadashi.

The Bengaluru sunrise and sunset sequence above is based on city-specific August 2027 calculations. Sunrise shifts only by a few minutes during the month, while sunset gradually becomes earlier.
A particularly important detail is August 20: the day begins with Krishna Tritiya, but Krishna Chaturthi begins at approximately 6:53 PM. Because Sankashti Chaturthi is linked to the evening Moonrise and the Chaturthi Tithi, the observance is placed on August 20. Bengaluru Moonrise is about 8:38 PM for the Sankashti observance.
Kannada Panchanga August 2027
A traditional Panchanga (ಪಂಚಾಂಗ) consists of five principal elements, known as the Pancha Angas:
- Tithi (ತಿಥಿ) – the lunar day based on the angular relationship between the Sun and Moon.
- Nakshatra (ನಕ್ಷತ್ರ) – the lunar mansion occupied by the Moon.
- Yoga (ಯೋಗ) – one of the 27 combinations calculated from the solar and lunar longitudes.
- Karana (ಕರಣ) – half of a tithi, used in traditional Panchanga calculations.
- Vara (ವಾರ) – the weekday, from Ravivara through Shanivara.
The Panchanga also commonly displays Paksha, sunrise, sunset, moonrise, Rahu Kalam, Yamaganda, Gulika Kalam and different Muhurta periods.
Tithi
A tithi is not the same thing as a Gregorian calendar date. A tithi can begin during the day and end after midnight. For example, the August 5 Panchanga shows Shukla Chaturthi continuing until approximately 2:27 AM on August 6.
This is why festival dates should be determined from the appropriate tithi rules rather than simply assigning one lunar day to every midnight-to-midnight date.
Nakshatra
Nakshatras divide the zodiacal path of the Moon into 27 sections. In August 2027, Bengaluru passes through nakshatras including Punarvasu, Pushya, Ashlesha, Magha, Purva Phalguni, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Chitra, Swati, Vishakha, Anuradha, Jyeshtha, Mula, Purva Ashadha, Uttara Ashadha, Shravana, Dhanishtha, Shatabhisha, Purva Bhadrapada, Uttara Bhadrapada, Revati, Ashwini, Bharani, Krittika, Rohini, Mrigashira and Ardra.
Yoga and Karana
Yoga and Karana are the remaining two limbs of the five-part Panchanga. Their exact transition times are useful for detailed daily Panchanga calculations, but they are not repeated in the main 31-day table to keep the monthly calendar readable.
Vara
The seven weekdays are traditionally named:
- Sunday – Ravivara
- Monday – Somavara
- Tuesday – Mangalavara
- Wednesday – Budhavara
- Thursday – Guruvara
- Friday – Shukravara
- Saturday – Shanivara
Rahu Kalam, Yamaganda and Gulika Kalam
Rahu Kalam, Yamaganda and Gulika Kalam are calculated from the local daylight interval. They are therefore location-dependent, rather than being fixed national clock times.
For Bengaluru in August 2027, the daylight interval becomes slightly shorter as the month progresses, causing these periods to move by several minutes. For example, Rahu Kalam on August 1 is approximately 5:11 PM–6:46 PM, while on August 31 it is approximately 3:25 PM–4:58 PM.
These periods are traditionally used when assessing the suitability of activities. They should not be confused with festival dates or government holidays.
Kannada Months in August 2027
The lunar-month terminology needs special care because Hindu calendars use more than one month-ending convention.
Ashadha and Shravana in the Kannada Amanta Calendar
For the Kannada/Amanta system, August 1 and August 2 fall at the end of Ashadha (ಆಷಾಢ). Amavasya occurs on August 2.
The new lunar month Shravana (ಶ್ರಾವಣ) begins after that Amavasya, making August 3 the beginning of Shravana Shukla Paksha in the Kannada calendar. Shravana continues through the rest of August, ending with Amavasya on August 31.
Why Some Calendars Show Bhadrapada in August
A Purnimanta calendar uses Purnima as the month-ending point. Under that convention, the period after Shravana Purnima on August 17 can be described as Bhadrapada Krishna Paksha.
This explains why some online Panchanga sources label August 18 onward as Bhadrapada, while a Kannada/Amanta calendar continues to call those dates Shravana Krishna Paksha.
For a Kannada Calendar 2027 page, it is better to clearly state the convention rather than mixing the two systems.
Kannada/Amanta convention used here:
- August 1–2: Ashadha
- August 3–31: Shravana
- Bhadrapada begins after the August 31 Amavasya, on September 1 under this convention.
Kannada Festivals and Vrat in August 2027
August is one of the important months in the Kannada religious calendar because Shravana contains several major vrata and festival observances.

The major August dates, including Nagara Panchami, Varalakshmi Vrat, Raksha Bandhan, Krishna Janmashtami and Aja Ekadashi, are consistent with the 2027 Kannada festival calendar.
Nag Panchami 2027
Nagara Panchami is observed on Friday, August 6, 2027, in the Kannada calendar. It falls on Shravana Shukla Panchami. The Kannada festival calendar identifies the observance as Nagara Panchami on August 6.
Significance of Nagara Panchami
Naga Panchami is associated with reverence for serpent deities and is traditionally observed during Shravana. Devotees may offer prayers to Naga Devata and visit temples or traditional serpent shrines.
In Karnataka, Naga worship forms part of a wider regional tradition that includes reverence for sacred groves, serpent stones and Naga shrines. Customs differ between communities and families.
Because exact Puja Muhurta can depend on the chosen Panchanga and location, a specific clock-time Puja Muhurta should be taken from the Bengaluru daily Panchanga rather than copied from a different city.
Varalakshmi Vratham 2027
Varalakshmi Vratham (ವರಮಹಾಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀ ವ್ರತ) falls on Friday, August 13, 2027. It is observed on the Friday preceding Shravana Purnima and is particularly important in South India, including Karnataka.
Significance of Varalakshmi Vratham
Varalakshmi is regarded as a form of Goddess Lakshmi associated with prosperity, wellbeing and auspiciousness. The vrata is traditionally observed by women and families who prepare a decorated Lakshmi representation, perform Puja and offer traditional naivedya.
In Karnataka, Varalakshmi Vratham is widely known as Varamahalakshmi Habba (ವರಮಹಾಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀ ಹಬ್ಬ).
The date is verified for 2027. A precise Bengaluru Puja Muhurta should be generated from a Bengaluru-specific Panchanga because Lagna-based Puja windows vary by location.
Raksha Bandhan 2027
Raksha Bandhan is on Tuesday, August 17, 2027, coinciding with Shravana Purnima.
For Bengaluru, the published Raksha Bandhan calculation gives the Rakhi thread ceremony window as approximately 6:08 AM to 12:58 PM IST. It also states that Bhadra had ended before sunrise.
Shravana Purnima
Purnima Tithi begins on August 16 and ends around 12:58 PM on August 17 in the Bengaluru calculation. Therefore, August 17 is the principal Shravana Purnima and Raksha Bandhan date.
Raksha Bandhan traditionally involves tying a rakhi or sacred thread and exchanging blessings. Families follow different customs for the ceremony, gifts and prayers.
Krishna Janmashtami 2027
Krishna Janmashtami falls on Wednesday, August 25, 2027, in the Kannada calendar. It is observed during Krishna Paksha Ashtami of Shravana under the Amanta convention used for this Kannada calendar.
The astronomical tithi calculation gives:
- Ashtami begins: August 24, around 8:24 PM
- Ashtami ends: August 25, around 7:19 PM
- Rohini begins: August 25, around 12:27 PM
- Rohini ends: August 26, around 11:42 AM
For Bengaluru, the Nishita Puja window is approximately 11:59 PM on August 25 to 12:45 AM on August 26.
Janmashtami Fasting
Devotees who observe the traditional fast generally take Sankalpa during the day and perform Krishna Puja around Nishita Kaal.
Parana rules can vary. A traditional approach considers the end of both Ashtami Tithi and Rohini Nakshatra, while some families follow a local or temple-specific practice. Because the Rohini period continues into August 26, devotees should follow the Parana rule of their established tradition rather than assuming that midnight automatically ends every Janmashtami fast.
Traditional celebrations may include:
- Krishna Puja
- Bal Krishna decoration
- Jhula or cradle ceremony
- Bhajans and devotional singing
- Fasting
- Panchamrit and other offerings
- Midnight Janmotsav
- Dahi Handi celebrations in communities that follow that tradition
Ekadashi in August 2027
There are two principal Ekadashi fasting dates in August 2027 for the Bengaluru calendar.
| Ekadashi | Date | Paksha | Parana | Significance |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shravana Putrada / Pavitropana Ekadashi | August 12, 2027 | Shukla Paksha | August 13, approximately 9:43 AM–2:37 PM | Vishnu worship and Ekadashi fasting |
| Aja Ekadashi | August 28, 2027 | Krishna Paksha | August 29, approximately 6:11 AM–7:02 AM | Traditional Vishnu vrata associated with spiritual purification |
The Bengaluru Ekadashi calculation gives the August 12 Parana window as 9:43 AM–2:37 PM on August 13, and the August 28 Parana window as 6:11 AM–7:02 AM on August 29. Ekadashi calculations can differ under Smarta and Vaishnava rule sets, so devotees following a particular sampradaya should use that tradition’s calendar.
Shravana Putrada Ekadashi
Shravana Putrada Ekadashi is the Shukla Paksha Ekadashi of Shravana. It is associated with Lord Vishnu and is traditionally observed through fasting, prayer, Vishnu worship and devotional activities.
Aja Ekadashi
Aja Ekadashi falls on August 28. Under the Kannada Amanta system it is the Shravana Krishna Ekadashi, while some Purnimanta calendars label the same lunar phase as Bhadrapada Krishna Ekadashi. This is another example of why lunar-month terminology should always be stated together with the calendar convention.
Amavasya in August 2027
There are two Amavasya dates relevant to August 2027 when the month is considered by Gregorian date:
August 2 – Ashadha Amavasya
The first Amavasya occurs on Monday, August 2, 2027. Bengaluru Panchanga calculations place the Amavasya Tithi through the afternoon, with the new lunar month beginning afterward.
This date is also notable astronomically because a partial solar eclipse is visible from Bengaluru. The local eclipse begins around 3:58 PM, reaches maximum around 4:53 PM, and ends around 5:43 PM IST.
August 31 – Shravana Amavasya
The second Amavasya occurs on Tuesday, August 31, 2027. The Amavasya Tithi continues until approximately 11:09–11:10 PM in Bengaluru calculations.
Under the Kannada Amanta system, this is Shravana Amavasya and marks the end of Shravana.
Traditional Amavasya observances may include:
- Pitru-related prayers
- Tarpana or Shraddha according to family tradition
- Charity
- Temple worship
- Meditation and devotional practices
Specific Shraddha rules should be followed according to the family’s customary Panchanga and local tradition.
Purnima in August 2027
The major Purnima of August is Shravana Purnima on Tuesday, August 17, 2027.
It is associated with several observances, including:
- Shravana Purnima
- Raksha Bandhan
- Rakhi ceremony
- Gayatri Jayanti in calendars that observe it on this Purnima
- Traditional Purnima Vrat
- Simha Sankranti
For Bengaluru, Purnima Tithi ends around 12:58 PM on August 17. The Raksha Bandhan thread ceremony window is approximately 6:08 AM to 12:58 PM according to the Bengaluru calculation.
Sankashti Chaturthi August 2027
The August Sankashti Chaturthi is Heramba Sankashti Chaturthi, observed on Friday, August 20, 2027.
There is an important tithi detail: at Bengaluru sunrise on August 20, Krishna Tritiya is still running, and Krishna Chaturthi begins at approximately 6:53 PM. The Sankashti observance is nevertheless placed on August 20 because the relevant Chaturthi and Moonrise conditions occur that evening.
For Bengaluru, the Moonrise is approximately 8:38 PM.
Sankashti Chaturthi Vrat
Traditional observance generally includes:
- Daytime fasting
- Worship of Lord Ganesha
- Evening Puja
- Offering flowers, fruits and naivedya
- Viewing the Moon after Moonrise
- Completing the fast according to family tradition
Moonrise is particularly important for Sankashti Chaturthi, so a Moonrise time from Pune, Mumbai or another city should not be substituted for Bengaluru.

| August 31 | 06:08 AM | 06:31 PM |
These times are calculated specifically for Bengaluru rather than being copied from a national calendar. The month changes by only a few minutes in sunrise but has a more noticeable gradual shift in sunset.
Karnataka Holidays in August 2027
Religious observances and government holidays are not the same thing. A festival appearing in a Kannada Panchanga does not automatically mean that it is a Karnataka government holiday.

Important religious observances during August include:
- Nagara Panchami – August 6
- Shravana Somavara – August 9, 16, 23 and 30
- Mangala Gauri Vrat – August 10 and 24
